NEWS : Mitsubishi Heavy unit to offer auto testing gear in China, Thailand

August 21, 2017 TOKYO -- A subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will start selling weather simulators to automakers in China and Thailand as production there continues to climb.
.
The simulators can produce heavy rain, snowfall or extreme heat, enabling automakers to test how cars handle changes in weather and road conditions.
.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems will provide package deals that cover everything from installation to maintenance. The company had previously shipped components from Japan, leaving installation to local contractors.
.
Plans call for taking orders starting this fiscal year at sales outlets in China and Thailand. Each order will come to roughly 500 million to 2 billion yen ($4.58 million to $18.3 million), with the maintenance contracts expected to run in 10-year increments.
.
Demand for environmentally friendly cars is strong in China, and Thailand is a growing export base for emerging markets. Mitsubishi Heavy anticipates demand for testing equipment will grow as output rises, particularly among Japanese automakers operating locally.
